The past few months has been complete devastation across the events and hospitality industry. Social distancing and stay at home mandates have shut down events across the country and around the world as people strive to limit contact with others and slow the pandemic. The events industry, which exists to bring people together, has been hit particularly hard.

In recent weeks we have spent a lot of time discussing how we might still move forward with some of our annual events this year, particularly given that this October, Copperstone Event Production & Creative Agency will be celebrating its 15th year of creating memories in the event sector.

However, with all of the logistical challenges and uncertainties we currently face due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s biggest annual events, including our annual red-carpet GALA Event at the end of the year, our charity outreach projects, and our flagship annual competition, Talent Search SA.

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of this year’s Talent Search SA competition. This is not a decision we have taken lightly, and we want to thank all our valued sponsors and our judging panel for your willingness to support our projects, as well as everyone who entered for this year’s competition. We will begin processing full refunds to all entrants immediately. If you registered online, your refund will be processed within 24-72 hours. Your refund will be processed to your original form of payment, and you will receive a confirmation email and refund receipt.

It was a painful decision to cancel some of our biggest events, as well as Talent Search SA competition this year, but the health and safety of our guests, partners, judging panel, contestants, volunteers, and staff are our top priority, and with the unfolding situation related to COVID-19, we felt this was the decision that had to be made.

So what can our regular guests expect for the rest of the year? People are conscious and aware of large crowds now – and will subconsciously make efforts to avoid them, even after the pandemic has passed. We are already working on smaller intimate events at Copperstone House when Lockdown permits, as well as an online initiative which we will launch as part of our 15-year Celebrations later this year.

At COPPERSTONE House we are permitted to operate during lockdown level 3 and are ready to welcome all Essential Services Providers and Business Travellers. Please be advised that the health and safety of our guests and staff remain a priority during this period. We have also implemented these additional control measures you can familiarise yourself with when booking.

COPPERSTONE’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) philosophy is simple – to treat others the way we wish to be treated. We have long lived by the mantra, “doing well by doing good.” This philosophy is demonstrated through our core values and involvement in charitable efforts.

Since COPPERSTONE was established, charity events and supporting NGO’s and other charitable causes has been at the core of what we do.

We have supported numerous charities through fundraisers, gala events, celebrity charity auctions and charity dinners. We also raised funds and awareness for various causes through our SA Bachelor & Bachelorette competition, which evolved in the Humanitarian of the Year competition and currently through our flagship competition, Talent Search SA – where we find Artists with a Purpose- talent acts who also believe in bringing about change to our communities and the country.

Since COPPERSTONE was started, we have been blessed enough to have been able to support various charities and communities in need. Over the past 15 years we raised more than R1 million in funds to numerous well-deserved NGO’s and communities. We also created much-needed awareness through various charity campaigns, as well as products and services to communities in need.

Some of the charities and communities we supported thus far include: CANSA (The Cancer Association of South Africa), Jacaranda Children’s Home, Louis Botha Children’s Home, Berg-en-Dal, SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), Siyazigabisa Children’s Home, Ripple Reading, Rooihuiskraal Library, Wespoort NG Church, Imizamo Yethu Community Centre, CANSA TLC Nicus Lodge, Reach for a Dream, Amadea Safe House, Foodbank SA, Peas in a Pod, The Princess Project, Theatre Benevolent Fund (TBF) and CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation).

Words such as “charity” and “philanthropy” describe a voluntary act, a matter of kindness rather than duty. For us giving back is more a duty we are obligated to do while we’re renting our space on earth. Or maybe it is a combination of kindness and duty- a gift we HAVE to give.

The health and safety of our guests and our employees is our highest priority health and safety of our guests and staff remain a priority during this period.

We have implemented the following additional control measures:

  • Upon arrival at the property, all guests will be required to show us proof of vaccination. Vaccines are our way out of the pandemic, and our way back to a life where we can be together safely. If you are not vaccinated, you will unfortunately not be allowed to enter.
  • New operating standards and protocols, which seek to protect workers, restore travelers’ confidence, ensure social distancing, and put in place the necessary cleaning and hygiene standards.
  • Increased cleaning of public areas and surfaces frequently touched by guests and staff.
  • Regular disinfection of door handles, credit card terminals, pens and front desk surfaces, bars, and commonly used amenities.
  • As an additional precaution, we will only allow stays of a minimum of 2 nights nights for the time being.
  • In an effort to mitigate the risk for our guests and staff, to ensure minimum contact, all rooms will be cleaned every 3 days, or on request by long-stay guests.
  • No meals will be served for the time being. We will however provide our guests with our normal continental breakfast offering, safely pre-packed daily in the fridge. For lunch and dinner, we recommend guests make use of Uber Eats or Mr D to order meals delivered to the property.
  • We will be implementing touchless payment solutions, where practical an EFT can be done after booking stage as well as electronic check-in’s prior to arrival, to limit the opportunity for virus transmission while also enabling a seamless travel experience.
  • Educating staff on what the virus is; ways in which the virus is transmitted; symptoms to look out for; and daily measures to prevent contamination and spread of viruses in personal, operational and guest spaces. Education of staff is ongoing.
  • Hand sanitisers are placed in easy reach of guests in public areas of the property, as well as in all rooms.
  • Personal hygiene is being emphasised, including the importance of washing hands frequently and thoroughly; avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth; practicing respiratory hygiene (sneezing and coughing into a tissue that is safely discarded or the crook of the elbow), and avoiding touching one’s face.
  • Protective wear such as protective gloves, face shields and face masks are issued to all staff.
  • Alcoholic beverages will be for sale again at our upstairs bar. The poolside bar will still remain closed for now.
  • Avoiding close contact with anyone who is coughing, sneezing and feverish.
  • To minimize the spread of COVID-19 and to protect other guests as well as our employees, we reserve the right to send guests home if they show clear signs of COVID-19.

No vaccine no entry

Guest Safety Requirements:

  • All guests are required to wear face masks in common areas
  • Wash your hands frequently or use our dispensers with hand sanitiser
  • Maintain social distancing
  • Avoid handshakes and hugs
  • Cough into a paper towel that you throw away. Then wash your hands.
  • If you do not have a paper towel, cough in your elbow to prevent air droplets from spreading.
  • Avoid touching your face: eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness to be reported to Management for further action to take place, such as contacting the NICD hotline.

The NICD Hotline is available to all staff and guests. In the event that anyone feels ill, the South African Department of Health advises first phoning the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) helpline rather than going straight to a medical facility, to prevent potential contamination. The NICD hotline number is 080 002 9999.
